What happens at an online fitness consultation?

Rating

The fitness consultation or online fitness consultation, serves as a pivotal step in embarking on a fitness journey. During this process, the fitness coach or personal trainer engages in detailed discussions regarding your specific needs.

Establishing training requirements involves considering various factors, including age, physical capabilities, objectives, availability, and mindset. It's imperative for the fitness coach to gain a comprehensive understanding of the client's needs before crafting a tailored training program.

This article aims to tackle some of the frequently asked questions surrounding fitness consultations.

What should online fitness consultation include?

The first and foremost aspect of a fitness consultation is to create an opportunity for an open one-on-one conversation. It is a great way for you to get to know your fitness coach or personal trainer.

Effective one-on-one conversations can help build a foundation of trust and collaboration. Building trust initially is important as you work towards common goals. It is also important that the fitness consultation is well-structured and organized. This will allow the most efficient use of time for both the coach and the client.

Our fitness consultation is divided into 3 stages.

Screening the client

The initial phase of the fitness consultation involves screening the client. Our fitness coaches will assess whether you're ready to start an exercise program immediately or if there are any potential risks associated with beginning a new fitness regimen.

You may be required to complete certain forms, such as a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire (PARQ), as part of this process. In rare cases, the coach may suggest consulting with a general practitioner (GP).

Gathering information

During this stage, we gather information regarding the customer's physical statistics, dietary habits, lifestyle, profession, and past exercise experiences. This data is obtained through a questionnaire containing a combination of open-ended and closed-ended questions. These details are crucial for tailoring a training program specifically suited to you, ensuring its effectiveness and individualization.

Program design

Program design typically follows the initial consultation. However, the coach may seek your input on the general outline of the program design.

At the beginner level, the program typically includes resistance training, aerobic training, and flexibility training. However, additional variations may be incorporated based on your goals and abilities. For instance, an iso-lateral training program might be introduced to promote balance in physical appearance.

The fitness coaches are here to listen to you and address any fitness-related questions you may have. Therefore, fostering open and honest communication from both sides is crucial to meeting all your requirements and achieving your fitness goals.

What can I expect at an online fitness training consultation?

You can anticipate a friendly one-on-one conversation with our coaches. Additionally, you may be requested to complete a questionnaire. In the event that the client is unable to fill out the questionnaire independently, the personal trainer/coach will conduct an interview during the consultation session and complete the questionnaire on the client's behalf.

You will also be asked to sign several mandatory forms, such as the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire or Client Readiness Questionnaire. If the consultation is conducted in person, the coach may also take a few measurements such as height, weight, body mass index (BMI), and body fat percentage.

Following the consultation, the personal trainer or fitness coach will provide you with a body measurement chart that you can take with you and complete at your convenience.

How long is an online fitness consultation?

The personal training consultation typically ranges from 30 minutes to one hour. In some instances, the coach may follow up with an email to request additional information.
